Reporting from the UN COP25 in Madrid
The 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP25, was the 25th United Nations Climate Change conference. It was held in Madrid, Spain, from 2 to 13 December 2019 under the presidency of the Chilean government. The conference incorporated the 25th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the 15th meeting of the parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP15), and the second meeting of the parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA2).
The conference was planned to be held in Brazil in November 2019, but a year before the planned start, newly elected President Jair Bolsonaro withdrew the offer to host the event, citing economic reasons. Then Chile stepped up and became the new host, but massive protests against social inequality in the lead-up to the meeting forced it late October 2019 to withdraw from hosting. Then by mutual agreement between the UN, Chile, and Spain, the latter became the new host.
Various climate activists had set out from Europe to South America by sailboat, before the decision had been taken to relocate COP25 to Madrid. In mid-November, some of these activists joined an alternative conference, the "Forest COP", near the centre of the Amazon jungle, in Terra do Meio. The event was attended by indigenous leaders, scientists and academics such as Eduardo Góes Neves, and activists such as Nadezhda Tolokonnikova. After the Forest COP, a follow-on event, "Amazônia Centro do Mundo" (Amazon: The Centre of the World) took place on 17 November in nearby Altamira.
Ride East. A Journey Across NE India 2019
We invite you to a special screening of our documentary on Operation Ride East which is a cross country motorcycle ride in northeast India that was flagged off by Conrad Sangma the Chief Minister of Meghalaya and executed from 15 to 25 October 2019 to promote the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in northeast India and commemorate the 100th Anniversary since of the end of World War I.
The money raised from our ticket sales will be used to build an Eco Village Hub in Spring Valley Farm to train organic farmers from northeast India.
The 10 selected Ride East motorcycle riders followed a 1000 mile route riding on Royal Enfield Himalayan and Royal Enfield Bullet for 10 days across the picturesque northeastern states of India that share international borders with China, Myanmar, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. They started from Shillong in Meghalaya on 15 October and ride to the Lake of No Return on the India-Myanmar border south of Pangsau and ended the ride back in Shillong on 24 October in time to celebrate United Nations Day before taking off on 25 October.
Ride East will be executed annually to support Worldview Impact Foundation to bridge social entrepreneurs to organic farmers who are making a difference in northeast India but lack institutional support and market linkages to scale up their impact. These social entrepreneurs and organic farmers will be trained at Spring Valley Farm in collaboration with Green Route once the Eco Village Hub has been built. All the Carbon Neutral Riders of Ride East will offset all their carbon emissions by planting mangrove trees with Ecofriend World at Thor Heyerdahl Climate Park in Myanmar.
Following the historic ride of WWII Dispatcher Bikers, Ride East is engaging these socially conscious bikers, who will facilitate such support through strategic collaborations with like-minded organizations and individuals. We are building a Community On Wheels (COW) that will make a difference by providing support to social entrepreneurs. Ride East is now enabling the social entrepreneurs to create a bridge with small hold, organic farmers, in the northeastern states of India and bring sustainable development to the communities.
Youth Engagement in Social Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development Training
Youth engagement in social entrepreneurship presents a powerful avenue for addressing contemporary global challenges and fostering sustainable development. This training explores the motivations, challenges, and opportunities shaping the involvement of young individuals in social ventures, with a focus on understanding the role of support mechanisms in facilitating their success. Adopting a mixed-methods approach, we conducted a quantitative survey among 30 young social entrepreneurs.
Our findings reveal that youth are primarily driven by a desire to create positive social impact, passion for addressing societal challenges, and belief in the potential of entrepreneurship to drive change. However, they face significant challenges such as limited access to funding and regulatory barriers, which vary across socio-economic contexts. Support mechanisms including mentorship, capacity building programs, and access to funding play crucial roles in enhancing the success and sustainability of youth-led social ventures. By bridging gaps in existing literature and offering empirical insights, this research contributes to the discourse on youth empowerment and social entrepreneurship, providing evidence-based recommendations for stakeholders across sectors.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
